A potential career in the art field that I have chosen to further explore is Architectural Design. I have decided to choose this career path because I have a love for seeing how buildings and structures are made, and enjoy digital design. I believe that this career path is interesting because every project you work on is unique in its own way, and many people will get to see your work. In order to become an architectural designer one must possess a high school diploma and also at least a bachelor's degree in Architecture/ Architectural Technology and Design. Training/ Internships or prior experience is also recommended but not required depending who you intend to work for. There are many schools that offer these programs but one in particular that I chose to research was Pennsylvania College of Technology (Penn Tech). The reason that I chose this school is because Penn Tech offers a great architectural design program, is relatively local, and even sometimes offers intern training opportunities. Penn Tech is a public college located in Williamsport, Pennsylvania and offers over one hundred programs for many different career paths. The school has an average enrollment rate of around 5,500 students and a 92% acceptance rate. Penn Tech offers a Architectural Technology and Sustainable Design program that would provide the necessary skills and degree to become an architectural designer. The average class size for this program is anywhere between 16 and 22 students and offers a 1:1 ratio of computers to students in their CAD labs which is great because it offers more time for one on one instruction. After completing the sustainable design program for two years, students can move up to their residential construction program. Penn Tech’s Bachelor of Science degree in residential construction technology and management class is focused on construction processes and management at the technical design level and is specified around the construction of family and residential housing. Students in this program focus on advanced design, estimating, cost control, and code compliances of their works and can earn internship opportunities. Students can also decide to obtain their Architectural Technology Associate's Degree at Penn Tech. The coursework for students allows them to continue their work towards an advanced degree as well as skills in computer drafting and other necessary software skills needed for this path. Penn Tech does recommend that applicants send a portfolio of previous works in architecture related fields (if offered at school) when applying but they do not require it. In conclusion I believe that I would consider applying to Penn Tech for their architectural design program because they are a local school and offer a good program. Their internship opportunities are another thing that makes Penn Tech stand out to me and because Most applicants are accepted and they do offer the full requirement of needing a bachelor's degree in the field to obtain a job as an architectural designer Penn Tech can truly be seen as a potential choice for post secondary education. This college also has a relatively low class size which leaves more one on one instruction time and individual learning opportunities.
